ROBERTO — PAINTINGS

I paint intimacy — moments you recognise without knowing why.
The closeness of a couple. The friction. The unspoken.
A sense of something that almost happened

Roberto is a painter based in Flanders (Belgium) working in oil on canvas. His paintings are built in thin layers of Mussini oil and damar resin, developed slowly through successive adjustments rather than through a single decisive gesture.

His work begins with observation. Reality is not treated as something fixed, but as something that takes shape through attention. Painting becomes a way of isolating fragments of experience — images that remain open rather than explanatory, allowing meaning to emerge gradually for the viewer.

Roberto was recognised by The Hug as “One of 100 Artists to Watch in 2024”, in a selection involving curators from MoMA and Christie’s. His work unfolds through long-term series centred on intimacy, perception, and the fragile balance between presence and distance
