An original oil painting.
Although once connected in title to the Ixion series, the focus here has shifted entirely. The scene no longer suggests myth or conflict, but collaboration: a trainer and a pupil, bound by shared effort, guidance, and mutual trust. What unfolds is not a duel but a moment of companionship, where discipline and care quietly align.
The warm chromatic range — reds, magentas, and deep violets — reinforces this sense of proximity and emotional warmth. Built through thin successive layers of Mussini oil and damar resin, the surface retains subtle traces of earlier painterly decisions, allowing the image to emerge gradually as a field of supportive presence rather than tension.
What interested me was the fragile balance between instruction and encouragement: the gesture that corrects, yet protects; the look that evaluates, yet reassures. The painting holds that brief interval in which effort is shared and confidence begins to grow.
